National Entrepreneurship Awards 2019 Honouring Young Entrepreneurs and Eco-system Builders for their outstanding efforts in Entrepreneurship Development


Winners will be identified through a process of self-nomination (or nomination by a nominator), screening, multi-stage evaluation, physical verification and jury selection. Thirty-nine (39) awards will be awarded in this Track. This is to honour the entrepreneurs who have created exemplary enterprises, primarily in the unconventional and untapped spaces.

The three categories in the NEA 2019 are positioned to cater different entrepreneurial models in the country hence the eligibility criteria in ‘Enterprise Award Track’ for the three categories are customized as per the nature and scale of the business.

Common Criteria for all Enterprise Award Categories

Applicable for Enterprise Award Categories, A1, A2, A3, including General and Special Category Awardees)

a. Entrepreneur’s age should be upto the age of 40 years as on April 1st, 2019
b. The candidate should be a First-Generation Entrepreneur/s. The definition of a first-generation entrepreneur for the scheme is “An entrepreneur who is not in the same line of business as his/her parent. They should have started the enterprise on their own initiative, idea or innovation”.

Eligibility Criteria for Enterprise Award Sector Category A1 for NEA 2019

Enterprise with Initial Investment up to 1 Lakh

Common Eligibility Criteria for all categories:

  • Entrepreneur’s age should be upto the age of 40 years as on April 1st, 2019
  • The candidate should be a First-Generation Entrepreneur/s. The definition of a first-generation entrepreneur for the scheme is “An entrepreneur who is not in the same line of business as his/her parent. They should have started the enterprise on their own initiative, idea or innovation”.
  • An initial investment of the enterprise should not exceed 1 Lakh.
  • The enterprise should be a formal entity.
  • An entrepreneur must be a founder/co-founder of an enterprise/sole proprietorship firm/ partnership/ own account enterprise.

  • Should be Profitable
  • Not supported by an ‘established’ organization in the past 5 years; however, able to mobilize resources from different sources to grow the business

  • Majority “promoter-founder” shareholders must hold 26% or more equity currently
  • Majority “promoter-founder” shareholders must have held 51% or more at the incorporation stage
  • Majority owners’ stake must belong to person/persons who are aged upto 40 years
  • Majority owners must be First-Generation Entrepreneurs
  • Majority owners must hold more than 51% or more ownership, must be with First Generation Entrepreneurs of age upto 40 years
  • The owner must be aged upto 40 years
  • The owner must be a First-Generation Entrepreneur

Enterprise with Initial Investment above 1 Lakh to 10 Lakhs

Common Eligibility Criteria for all categories

  • Entrepreneur’s age should be upto the age of 40 years as on April 1st, 2019
  • The candidate should be a First-Generation Entrepreneur/s. The definition of a first-generation entrepreneur for the scheme is “An entrepreneur who is not in the same line of business as his/her parent. They should have started the enterprise on their own initiative, idea or innovation”.
  • Initial investment of the enterprise should be greater than 1 Lakh but should not exceed 10 Lakh.
  • The Enterprise may be a formal or an informal entity, however, the Enterprise must provide evidence of its existence. Some of the examples of such evidences could be:
    • In the case of an informal entity: the entity can be a sole proprietorship firm/partnership/ own account enterprise but having one of the following: Bank Account, Registration with a Government/Non-Governmental Organizations
    • In the case of a formal entity: the entity can be registered under Companies or Cooperative Act, or a Partnership/Producer Company/ Limited Liability Partnership firm or an entity having a formal Memorandum of Association and/or Articles of Association

It is desirable but not mandated that the enterprise have some necessary industry certifications (example: CE, FSSAI, MSME, etc.) and/or a dedicated current or savings bank account, or registered with Governmental and Non-Governmental organisation.

Eligibility Criteria for Enterprise Award Category A3 for NEA 2019

Enterprise with Initial Investment above 10 Lakh to 1 Crore

Common Eligibility Criteria for all categories

  • Entrepreneur's age should be upto the age of 40 years as on April 1st, 2019
  • The candidate should be a First-Generation Entrepreneur/s. The definition of a first-generation entrepreneur for the scheme is “An entrepreneur who is not in the same line of business as his/her parent. They should have started the enterprise on their own initiative, idea or innovation”.
  • The Initial Investment of the Enterprise has to be above 10 Lakh to 1 Crore. In addition, the enterprise should fulfil the following two criteria:
    • The enterprise must mandatorily have any one of statutory documents (Audited Balance Sheet or P&L Account, Incorporation Certificate, etc.) or trade-specific registrations (example: CE, FSSAI, MSME, GST Registration, etc.)
    • The enterprise must not have defaulted to any lenders in the past 4 years (FY 14-15, 15-16, 16-17, 17-18) nor by its group entities or its promoters. No defaults and delays in paying the statutory dues.
